Realism In Online Dating

by Pam Baldwin

We as an audience are bombarded with dating web sites offering us the chance at true love or the closest thing the computer can get to it. Of course such a path is tempting! Why be the plain old you when you can be someone exciting and lead a life of adventure.

Although you often hear of the exaggerated profiles that turn old, overweight men into young athletes, it’s quite possible to accurately reflect who you are with an online profile. You can incorporate every aspect of your personality that you think is special, and explain it in a way that clearly illustrates who you are to others. For most people, the hardest part of making a profile is a tendency to sell themselves short and not realizing the creative potential that they possess.

One of the most popular tasks in the online dating site is the heading. This mystical sentence will have charming and available (and possibly rich!) partners click on your profile. Somehow ‘Overwhelmed Professional in Need of Psychiatric Care’ does not sound as romantic as ‘Sexy and Passionate Fashionista Seeks True Love’.

You should make an inventory of yourself. Ask your family and friends what your best qualities are, and put their responses into a list. Then when it comes time to make your heading, find a way to incorporate a few of these words. Be sure to keep it concise though, while still accurately reflecting the real you.

Other ideas for headers could be an opinion on an issue, what you’re passionate about, or even your hobbies. If somebody shares a common interest that you list in your heading, they’re likely to read your profile. Focus on something exciting or unique, in order to stand apart from everybody else.

Although many uses leave the physical description blank on their page, we don’t recommend this. We understand that you aren’t a supermodel. Honestly though, how many people live up to those standards? Although it may be tough, try to reflect the real you.

There is always somebody for everybody! Regardless of your body type, there is somebody looking for a partner just like you. Don’t be embarrassed of your body - be proud! The more honest you are, the more likely you are to receive a great match.

Make sure that you don’t reveal any information that identifies you personally, like your physical address. You may have more than one person that you’d like to talk to before you decide to try a relationship. Thus, it’s best to contact people online or by telephone before meeting with anybody.

Creating an online profile is easy and accurately reflects the true you. During the process, you can explore and affirm positive points of your personality and appearance. Make this an opportunity to explain everything great about you, both mentally and physically. You’re online experience is sure you be satisfactory!
